Abstract
Chronic Iymphocytic leukemia is a disease characterized by an expansion or
accumulation of small Iymphocytes which is generally regarded as neoplastic in nature.
The Iymphocytes are morphologically similar to normal Iymphocytes but functionally
abnormal.
It appears that chronic Iymphocytic leukemia has a world wide distribution, but low
incidence in Korea.
Here is the case report of B-cell chronic Iymphocytic leukemia, who is a 62-year old
female with severe headache on admission. This B-cell chronic Iymphocytic leukemia
was confirmed by bone marrow study and immunophenotyping panel of the
Iymphocytes.
Peripheral blood smear showed moderate increase of mature-looking small Iympho-
cytes. Of the bone marrow study, most of marrow elements were occupied by small
lymphocytes and smudge cells on the aspirate smear, while biopsy sections disclosed
almost 100% cellularity with diffuse Iymphocytic infiltration on entire field.
Surface marker study of Iymphocytes used by immunophenotyping panels of
Becton-Dickinson company revealed HLA - DR and Kappa type.
